ATA CARNET

Temporary movement of goods

An ATA Carnet is an internationally recognised customs document which enables the temporary movement of goods, without having to pay any taxes and duties.

ATA Carnets are valid for up to one year on imports into countries that are part of the ATA Convention, covering all goods leaving the UK and returning within 12 months of the date the carnet is issued.

Essentially a passport for your heavy goods transport that replaces all other customs documentation, helping to simplify and streamline exports.

What are the benefits of using an ATA Carnet?

  • More streamlined exports
  • No lengthy customs process
  • Avoid paying unnecessary duties or VATs
  • The ATA carnet provides multiple trips up to its one-year validity.

When do I need an ATA Carnet?

An ATA Carnet will be required for temporary exports of goods, that will be exported and returned to the UK within one year. This could include goods for:

  • Short-term displays at trade fairs or exhibitions
  • Commercial samples for business meetings
  • Professional equipment (e.g. lighting and staging equipment for concerts or films sets)

Following Brexit, UK-based companies are no longer able to benefit from the Free Movement of Goods. Our ATA Carnet allows us to provide more streamlined transport and logistics solutions for our customers, with access to the same free movement of goods to the European Union (EU) as granted by an EU membership.
